Kyobashi, one of the main office districts in Tokyo, has prospered as a center of business and commerce since the Edo period.
Kyobashi is also a hotbed of chicken restaurants, and it is home to some of Tokyo’s most famous eateries.
In this article, we will introduce the “Isehiro Kyobashi Honten”, a yakitori restaurant that has been in business for over 100 years.
Please check the official website and Google Maps below for opening hours, holidays, reviews, etc.
The oldest yakitori restaurant in Tokyo
It is said that there are over 2,000 yakitori restaurants in Tokyo.
Of these, the one with the longest history is Isehiro Kyobashi Honten in Kyobashi.
It was established in 1921 (the 10th year of the Taisho era) and is known as a restaurant loved by many celebrities, including the film director Yasujiro Ozu.
I regret not having visited it before!
I visited a business partner in Nihonbashi for work, and finally finished work just after 12:30.
I walked from Nihonbashi to Kyobashi and visited “Isehiro Kyobashi Honten”, which I had wanted to go to for a while.
There are usually long queues here, but on this day there were only two people waiting, so we were able to get in soon.
When we were queuing, we were given a menu and asked to place our order.
When I looked at the menu, the most inexpensive item was the 4-piece yakitori bowl (white meat, thigh meat, dango and skin) for 1,900 yen, so I ordered that, but the two women who came in after me both ordered the 5-piece yakitori bowl (white meat, thigh meat, dango, skin and offal) for 2,300 yen (prices correct as of December 2022).
At first glance, she looked like an ordinary office lady, but I was impressed by how much she was eating.
The authentic yakitori at Isehiro Kyobashi Honten, grilled over charcoal, is super delicious, and I deeply regretted not having visited before.
This is a famous yakitori restaurant that is worth the trip.
Isehiro Kyobashi Honten was affected by the aging of the building and the large-scale redevelopment of the Kyobashi area, and in October 2020 it moved to a building across the street.
The most distinctive feature of the five-story Shin-Kyobashi main branch is its innovative air conditioning system, which is specialized for yakitori, and thanks to this system, the restaurant has become a place that provides safety and security even in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.
What has not changed since the relocation and reopening is the restaurant’s desire, which has been passed down since the first generation, to “serve chicken in the most delicious state”.
At Isehiro Kyobashi Honten, all the ingredients that go into the food, right down to the seasonings, are carefully selected, and the experienced chefs take great care to prepare them, and then grill them to perfection.
Isehiro Kyobashi Main Store is a famous restaurant that all yakitori lovers should visit at least once.
In addition to the main store, there are also branches in the Teigeki and Hotel New Otani areas, but we recommend you visit the main store in Kyobashi.
