Keikyu Kamata, Kamata/Tonkatsu,Katsu-don (pork cutlet and pork cutlet served on top of a bowl of rice)

One of Kamata’s top three tonkatsu restaurants. It has a symbolic presence even in Kamata, which is crowded with popular restaurants.
Lunch: ¥1,000~¥1,999 Dinner: ¥2,000~¥2,999

Maruichi, established in 1964, is a symbolic presence in Kamata’s tonkatsu battleground.
Maruichi has the longest history among the so-called “Kamata Tonkatsu Gosanke” (the three families of tonkatsu in Kamata).
In this issue, we report on Maruichi, which has an overwhelming presence in Kamata, a district crowded with popular restaurants.
Please check the official website and the Google map at the bottom of this page for business hours, holidays, and reviews.

One of the most popular tonkatsu restaurants in Kamata

Maruichi” in Kamata is one of the most popular restaurants in Kamata, having been split from “Ajino Tonkatsu Maruichi” (already closed), which used to be located in Omori.
I had heard that there was a long line, so I wanted to get there early. However, I arrived at the restaurant late, after 12:30 p.m., and there was a line of about 15 people.
The people waiting in line seemed to be full of enthusiasm for the delicious tonkatsu.

Before entering the restaurant, I was asked for my order and ordered the lunch fin cutlet set meal (1,400 yen).

After waiting in line for about 30 minutes, we were finally able to enter the restaurant.

The super tasty tonkatsu lives up to its reputation!

I was surprised to see the fin cutlet brought in front of me, and no matter how I looked at it, it seemed to weigh more than 250 grams.
The texture and flavor of the meat were both wonderful.

I usually eat it with more sauce, but this meat was so delicious that I thought, “I want to eat it all with just salt!”
I can no longer comprehend the price of 1,400 yen for such flavor and volume (prices as of May 2022).
Many people say that Maruichi is the best among Kamata’s three tonkatsu restaurants.
The tonkatsu at Maruichi is as delicious as the rumors say.

Next time, I definitely want to try the “superb loin cutlet set meal”!

I am not a fan of fatty meat, so I generally order tonkatsu with fillet.
I ordered the filet this time as well, but afterwards I saw a very tasty picture of the “Gokujo roast pork cutlet set meal” (2,800 yen) on the Internet and decided to order the “Gokujo roast pork cutlet set meal” the next time I go there (although the quantity is limited, so it depends on luck whether you can eat it or not).
Incidentally, it seems that “Maruichi” basically refuses all media interviews.
It was introduced in the January 2024 broadcast of “Dekago! Admachic Tengoku” broadcast in January 2024 refers to Maruichi as a tonkatsu restaurant with no coverage.
There is no official website, so this is truly a restaurant that became one of the most popular in Tokyo by word of mouth alone.
Lines are long, but turnover is fast, so don’t give up and get in line.
