There is a tonkatsu restaurant in Gaienmae that opened in February 2018 and was listed in the 2020 Michelin Guide Tokyo “Bib Gourmand”.
On this page, we report on Tonkatsu Nanaido, which has already gained a great reputation among us tonkatsu lovers.
Please check the official website and the Google map at the bottom of this page for business hours, holidays, reviews, etc.
Tonkatsu restaurant started by the owner of a popular yakitori restaurant
Nanaido is a tonkatsu restaurant produced by Mitsufumi Imai, the owner of the popular yakitori restaurant Imai.
He opened the restaurant because he loves tonkatsu so much.
As soon as it opened in 2018, it captured the hearts of tonkatsu enthusiasts and quickly became a very popular restaurant.
I came to know about this restaurant by sheer coincidence. When I finished work near Gaienmae Station, I saw a picture of the tonkatsu at Nanaiido on my cell phone and thought it looked delicious, so I decided to try it.
A popular restaurant with a long line of customers
I arrived at the restaurant a little after midnight.
Since the restaurant is listed in the Michelin Guide, there was still a line.
However, there were only 7 or 8 people in line, so we decided to wait in line.
The restaurant has a buy your ticket first style, so we were able to enter the restaurant about 25 minutes after purchasing our tickets.
I prefer fillet for my tonkatsu, but it was already sold out at this time of the day.
So I ordered the special loin, the second most expensive of the loins.
The meat was Hayashi SPF pork.
Once we were seated, our food was brought to us relatively quickly.
It was quite hearty and undeniably filled with anticipation.
The fat of the loin is sweet!
The meat was a loin, so it had quite a lot of fat on it, but this fat was sweet and very tasty.
It was what I call “good fat,” and it was full of flavor without being greasy.
In addition, the tonkatsu at Nanaido are not seasoned with salt and pepper.
Deep-fried in low-temperature lard, the tonkatsu is light and the batter is crispy.
The owner of this restaurant seems to have arrived at this taste after eating tonkatsu restaurants in various places, and I was very happy to find an article on the Internet in which the owner describes Ton-ta, a tonkatsu restaurant in Takadanobaba (my favorite restaurant), as a good restaurant.
Not only is the pork cutlet delicious!
Nanaido is a restaurant opened by the general of Yakitori Imai, and the chicken katsu is quite highly rated.
It would be great if you could go with several people to share.
Also, from what I actually felt when I visited Nanaiido, the restaurant has a great atmosphere.
The owner is cheerful and smiles at customers who seem to be regulars as well as those who do not seem to be regulars.
