In September 2021, a restaurant called “Katsu Pripoh” appeared like a comet in Shinjuku.
This time, we report on Katsu Pripoh, a tonkatsu restaurant that has quickly become a popular restaurant in the nation’s capital, serving carefully selected rare brand-name pork.
Please check the official website and the Google map at the bottom of this page for business hours, holidays, and reviews.

The most active tonkatsu restaurant in Tokyo today.

Katsu Pripoh is a relatively new restaurant, opening in September 2021.
Using only 12 to 13 kinds of pork selected carefully from all brands in Japan, the restaurant’s style of serving tonkatsu, which is filled with the belief of “changing tonkatsu from the bottom up,” has been well received and was quickly selected as one of the “100 Best Tonkatsu Restaurants” by a major gourmet website.
In January 2024, the restaurant was featured in the popular TV Tokyo program “Admatic Tengoku” (Admatic Heaven), and its momentum continues unabated.

I was impressed by the shockingly delicious filet mignon!

I first visited Katsu Pripoh in January 2023.
It had only been around for a year and a half, wasn’t as famous as it is now, and only had 12 Google reviews, but I decided to visit after seeing the images that looked so good.
We made a reservation in advance just in case (I think reservations are mandatory now), and our family of four visited at 1:00 pm on a Saturday.
We ordered three kinds of katsu: Hire Katsu, Loin Katsu, and Loin Katsu Donburi.
I ordered the Nangoku Sweet Extra Fine Filet (3,600 yen).
There was also a higher filet available, but unfortunately, it was not in stock that day (menu as of January 2023).

The filet that appeared in front of me was more voluminous than I had imagined.
It was slightly reddish, but since many restaurants leave the redness these days, it did not bother me at all.
After taking a bite, I immediately realized how great it was.
The meat was not at all dry, as is often the case with filet mignon, but on the contrary, it could be described as juicy, and the oil was well cut.
I think it is very difficult to fry at a low temperature and cut the oil cleanly, but this restaurant is able to do it.

I have eaten tonkatsu at many different restaurants, but when it comes to filet mignon, it is hard to find anything better.
Some may think the price of 3,600 yen is expensive, but considering the level of meat, I felt it was rather inexpensive (prices are current at the time).
Needless to say, the loin meat is also of a very high level, and I think it is truly a top-quality tonkatsu.

I never thought I would find such delicious meat in a katsudon.

The katsudon my wife ordered was so good that I couldn’t help but be amazed and say, “How can there be such delicious meat in a katsudon?
I think all the menu items are excellent.

We had the opportunity to meet the owner, Mr. Chushin Koh, and asked us about his commitment to tonkatsu, to which he responded as follows.

We use only brand-name pork selected through tastings.
The lard used, the frying method, the rice, and all handmade seasonings.
The way they cut the cabbage.
Use of special bread crumbs (produced at Nakaya bread crumb factory).
No chemical seasoning is used.

As mentioned above, they are very particular about the tonkatsu they serve.
Although the price is a bit expensive, the ultimate “Katsu Pripoh” tonkatsu is well worth it.
