This is one of the restaurants I’ve always wanted to visit.

I’ve spent most of my working life in regional cities outside of Tokyo, but there were a few restaurants I’d always wanted to visit when I returned to Tokyo.
One of these was the Kyobashi restaurant Matsuwa, which I visited on this occasion, and I was finally able to make my wish come true.

There was a long line 20 minutes before the shop opened.

I had an appointment at Nihonbashi at 11:30, and I passed the shop just after 11:10, but there were already about 30 people queuing up.
It was only 20 minutes before the shop opened, but it was already like this.
I couldn’t help but think “Oh no…” as I walked past the shop.
When I passed the shop again at around 12:25 after finishing my morning work, to my surprise there was no queue.
Thinking this was my chance, I headed for the entrance, but the shop was underground and there were about five people in line.
Even so, I thought that such a chance would rarely come along, so I decided to join the queue.
I was very lucky to be able to get in after waiting for about 15 minutes, but to my surprise, the shop sold out with about five people behind me. It seems I was very lucky.

The fried horse mackerel was as delicious as it was reputed to be!

Well, this was my first time at Matsuwa, and I had high expectations, but they were not disappointed.
The horse mackerel was fresh and juicy, and the fried horse mackerel was clearly of a different level to the usual horse mackerel.

There was a note on the table explaining how to eat it, which said “Please put plenty of grated daikon on the fried fish and eat it with a few drops of soy sauce”, but I went against this and poured soy sauce all over it.
This is because I love the way the rich flavor of the soy sauce on the batter and the delicious fish fuse together in my mouth.

I had been wanting to go to Matsuwa for over a decade, and it was delicious.

About “Kyobashi Matsuwa

Kyobashi Matsuwa is a restaurant that is well known for its fish dishes made with fresh fish caught in Matsuwa on the Miura Peninsula.
The name of the restaurant is derived from Matsuwara Fishing Port, and it is an officially recognized restaurant of the Matsuwara Fishing Port Cooperative Association.
For lunch, they only serve the “horse mackerel fry set meal (1,500 yen)” and additional menu items such as “seafood pickles in a small bowl (300 yen)” and “yuzu pepper (100 yen)” (all prices include tax), and for dinner they only serve a set course menu (prices as of August 2022).

I also visited in the evening, and was able to enjoy some very delicious fish dishes.
Unlike lunch, you can relax in the evening, so I personally recommend the evening.
