●Hiroo Hyogetsudo (established 1988)
Hiroo Hyogetsudo is a Japanese sweets shop with its main branch in Meguro Ward, Tokyo.
It is known as a famous shop with many fans, offering Japanese sweets that make the most of carefully selected ingredients.
In particular, its signature product, “Mubyo Sokusai” (a Japanese phrase meaning “good health and long life”), is a popular, good-luck Japanese-Western fusion confectionery.
The reason I visited this shop
It was a while ago, but I was going on a business trip to a client in Okayama, and I was looking for a gift to take with me.
I thought that the ideal gift would be something that would keep for a while, could be easily shared at work, was a type of confectionery that you couldn’t get in Okayama, and would also convey my feelings to the client. After searching online until midnight, I came across Hiroo Hyogetsudo.
When I saw the sweets with their stylish name “Mubyo Sokusai” and the feeling that they had been carefully made, I thought they might be good, so I actually went to the shop.
I made the right choice by choosing “Mubyo Sokusai”!
As it was my first time visiting this shop, I bought a 12-piece box (2,462 yen at the time) to try for myself.
This confectionary is made by sandwiching nuts or ginger pickled in honey between biscuits, and then cutting them into 3cm squares and individually wrapping them (price as of June 2022).
At first glance, it looks similar to Kamakura Beniya’s Kurumikko, but Mubyo-Sukusai is slightly moister and softer, and easier to eat.
In addition, the refreshing flavor of the ginger soaked in honey and the nutty aroma spread throughout the mouth, making it very delicious.
I thought that my customers would be pleased with this, so I used it as a gift later on.
When I gave the gift to a business partner, they said, “I really like this candy.
To my surprise, they knew about Mubyo-Sokusai.
I was surprised by their unexpected reaction, but I was happy that it had been worth the effort to choose it.
