There are many wonderful Western-style restaurants in Ginza.
Each has its own merits, so it’s hard to say which is best, but the restaurant I’d like to introduce today, “Mikawaya”, is perfect for important anniversaries.
I used it for a meal with a former subordinate I met again for the first time in about 20 years.
Please check the official website and Google Maps below for opening hours, regular holidays, reviews, etc.
This is the perfect restaurant for anniversaries, business entertainment, and dinner parties.
When I was working in Hiroshima, I received a message from a woman who had been my subordinate saying, “I’ve found a new job at another company.”
It seems she found my name using the company email address and contacted me.
She told me she was now living in Tokyo, so we decided to have lunch in Ginza.
It had been about 20 years since I’d seen her since her wedding, so it would be our first meeting in a long time.
I told her in advance that I might not recognize her because she had changed so much, and we arranged to meet in front of the restaurant.
On this day, I chose a Western-style restaurant called Mikawaya on the first floor of the Mitsukoshi department store in Ginza.
It is a long-established Western-style restaurant, and a high-class restaurant that was appropriate for our long-awaited reunion.

The food was delicious, of course, but what made me happier was that my former subordinate wanted to meet up with me.
After 20 years, a subordinate and his superior are on equal terms.
We were able to enjoy a delicious meal in a stylish restaurant, and had a very enjoyable time.
About Mikawaya
Mikawaya Shokuryohinten, which opened in 1887 (Meiji 20) next to Wako on what is now Ginza-dori, was reborn as the French restaurant Mikawaya during the confusion of the post-war period, and has continued to the present day.
Mikawaya has inherited the taste and skills of S. Weil, the first head chef of the Hotel New Grand in Yokohama, who introduced the essence of French cuisine to Japan, and continues to serve authentic Western-style food.
All the dishes are sophisticated and delicious, but the gratin, which was originally created by S. Weil as a quick improvisation for a foreign customer who was unwell, has become one of the restaurant’s signature dishes.
Other popular dishes include the veal cutlet, which has a wonderful combination of the meat’s own flavor and the rich sauce, and the crab croquettes, which are made with plenty of fresh king crab meat.
In addition, in order to preserve Japanese food culture, the restaurant provides chopsticks with meals and offers pickles and green tea after meals to those who order rice dishes, maintaining its own unique style.

On this site, we introduced it as a Western-style restaurant, but it has the atmosphere of a high-class restaurant with the best food and service.
