If you’re in Setagaya and you want to eat delicious Japanese black beef, there’s a place that comes to mind.
This is a restaurant that serves some of the best Japanese black beef I’ve ever eaten.
For that reason, I’d like to introduce you to Sumibi Yakiniku Fuchioka in Kyodo, Setagaya.

I found an interesting restaurant in a Setagaya gourmet guide!

I first heard about Sumibi Yakiniku Fuchioka in a gourmet guide for Setagaya Ward.
In the introduction article, the owner, Hiroyuki Fuchioka, commented that “all the meat is hand-cut, and the cut varies depending on the part of the meat” and “we don’t make the meat in advance, we cut it when we receive an order”, and that’s what made me want to visit the restaurant.

I was able to meet the finest Japanese Black beef.

I didn’t have the chance to go there until recently, but I visited there with my family of five.
Basically, you book a course, so I ordered the “Fuchioka Course” (8,800 yen), which most customers order (price as of May 2024).

The Fuchioka Course allows you to enjoy six different types of meat.

First of all, the appetizer and salad were both delicious, so it was a great start.

Next, the first piece of meat was brought over, and I was already overwhelmed from the start.
Perhaps it was because it was a five-person portion, but the meat that was brought over was so powerful that I even felt a sense of divinity from the meat, which was evenly marbled.
We were instructed to grill each side for five seconds, and we ate the first piece of meat.

The signature sirloin steak was served from the first dish.
It was baked for 5 seconds on each side, and it was baked to perfection.

After taking a bite, I thought that this was meat that would be beyond the ordinary level for anyone who ate it.
The meat was served in three courses: the first course was sirloin (with sauce), the second course was a combination of two specially selected cuts (with salt), and the third course was a combination of three specially selected cuts.

The second dish is a combination of two types of meat. It was served with thickly cut meat.
I poured this over rice and ate it on the rice. It was so delicious I couldn’t stop eating it!
The third dish is a platter of three kinds of meat. I was able to fill up on the finest meat.

The owner, Mr. Fuchioka, seems to want to serve “the deliciousness of Japanese Black Beef that penetrates the brain”, and I think he has achieved that more than enough.
I was full after eating the six different types of meat, and I was very satisfied.
After a palate cleanser, I finished with Japanese Black Beef meatballs and cold noodles, and I was able to eat even more wonderful meat than I had imagined.

This is the “vinegared Japanese beef and ponzu dressing” to cleanse the palate. It was served cold.
This minced beef cutlet is packed with the flavor of beef. I’ve never eaten minced beef cutlets like this before.
Cold noodles to finish off the meal. Adding vinegar to change the flavor makes them even more delicious.

Considering the current market price, I think that 8,800 yen for this much meat is pretty cheap.

Sumibi Yakiniku Fuchioka is a restaurant opened in 2017 in Kyodo by Hiroyuki Fuchioka, who trained at the famous Ichigaya restaurant Sumibi Yakiniku Nakahara.

We offer the finest Japanese Black beef in order to recreate the “deliciousness of Japanese Black beef that penetrates the brain, changing with the difference in the parts of the meat and the way it is cut” that I experienced during my training days.
We use only female Japanese Black Cattle that are in good condition at the time, regardless of the place of origin, and we never use frozen meat. We also carry out thorough quality control to ensure that we always serve meat in good condition.
This famous restaurant was also featured on the popular TV Tokyo program “Ad Machikku Tengoku”, and reservations for weekends fill up well in advance, so we recommend making your reservation as early as possible.
