Eel has become a luxury item in recent years, but there are still some restaurants in the city center that serve delicious, cheap eel.
For this reason, we will be reporting on “Unagi Akagaki” in Hatsudai.
Please check the official website and Google Maps below for opening hours, days off, reviews, etc.

There are always new discoveries to be made in Hatsudai.

While art facilities such as Tokyo Opera City line the streets, Hatsudai also has a unique mix of office buildings and traditional townhouses, as well as shopping streets and quiet residential areas.
I’ve been going there more often for work recently, but as it’s an area I haven’t had much chance to visit until now, I always find new shops whenever I go.
On this day, I found a delicious-looking eel restaurant and decided to go and try it out.

The texture of this eel is wonderful!

I visited a restaurant called “Unagi Akagaki” near Hatsudai Station.
The reason I went to this restaurant was because I had read in a review that “it takes 30 to 40 minutes after you order, is that okay?

There was also an eel restaurant in Nagoya called Unahou that didn’t bake the eel (it was pre-cooked), and it was a delicious restaurant.
I thought that a restaurant with the same commitment as Unahou must be delicious, and it was exactly as I thought.
It didn’t have a particularly crispy texture, but it had a wonderful soft and fluffy texture, and it was exactly the kind of eel I like. The texture was like that of the finest soft and fluffy conger eel sushi.
I ordered a regular unajyu, but it was about the same volume as the special grade at other restaurants, and it cost 2,860 yen (as of November 2023).

It took a while to cook, but I think it was worth the wait.

About “Unagi Akagaki

Unagi Akagaki is a long-established eel restaurant in a shopping arcade close to Hatsudai Station on the Keio New Line.
It is a famous restaurant that is loved by the locals, and the eel, which is grilled slowly and carefully after being ordered, has a wonderfully soft and fluffy texture and is very delicious.
If you find waiting too hard, you can also make a phone reservation in advance and specify the time when your unagi-ju will be ready.
