This time, we would like to introduce “Chicken Dining & Bar Goto” in Shinjuku, which serves oyakodon using rare Tokyo Shamo chicken.

A great oyakodon restaurant I happened to find
After eight years working in the countryside, I returned to Tokyo for the first time in a long time in 2022.
On that day, I went to a Japanese restaurant in Shinjuku that I used to frequent, but it was temporarily closed, so I quickly searched for another place and found “Chicken Dining & Bar Goto”.
I had never heard of the restaurant, but it was close to the one I was going to go to, so I decided to give it a try.

A surprisingly delicious oyakodon
I arrived at the restaurant at around 11:40, but there were about three people queuing outside.
It seemed like I had come at a bad time, and I was finally able to get in after 12:00.
I ordered the “Tokyo Shamo Chicken Ultimate Oyako-don” (1,000 yen) after looking at the menu, and the oyako-don that came out was the basic form of oyako-don that I like (with only egg and chicken as ingredients), and the fluffy egg and the crunchy, tasty chicken mixed together in my mouth, and it was indescribably delicious.
I realized that I had made a big mistake by missing out on such a delicious oyakodon restaurant until now.


What is a Tokyo Shamo?
The “Tokyo Shamo” chicken inherits 75% of the Shamo bloodline, and is a rare breed of chicken that is carefully raised at only a few poultry farms, and which makes the most of the traditional Japanese flavor of chicken meat.
They are raised for 20 weeks, which is about three times as long as broilers, and the meat has less fat than other chicken, so you can enjoy the original flavor of the meat.

About “Chicken Dining & Bar Goto”
Chicken Dining & Bar Goto is a chicken specialty izakaya (Japanese-style pub) that was opened by the owner, a former hotel employee, and his younger brother, based on the concept of “making it a place that I would want to go to myself!
At lunchtime, they serve the “Ultimate Oyako-don” made with fresh Tokyo Shamo chicken delivered directly from Ome every morning.
This popular dish, which has also been featured on TV, is a real gem that lets you enjoy the firm texture of the Tokyo Shamo chicken mixed with the runny egg.

Incidentally, the reason they named it “The Ultimate” seems to be that they wanted to make a special oyakodon that was impossible to make at home, and it’s a very delicious oyakodon that doesn’t sound strange when you hear the word “ultimate”.
When I looked at the menu carefully, I noticed that there was “Kamadaki Ultimate Oyakodon”.
I’d like to try this next time.
