I happened to discover a famous eel restaurant while waiting at a traffic light!
After dropping my daughter off in Nerima at the weekend, I was waiting at a traffic light on Kan-nana when I saw a sign for an eel restaurant.
I had a feeling that it would be delicious, so I went into the side road and visited the restaurant.
That’s how I ended up at Setagaya Miyagawa in Daita.
I had the impression that it was a very old restaurant, but the inside was clean and the staff welcomed me warmly.
I had delicious “hitsumabushi”!
When I looked at the menu, I saw “hitsumabushi”, so I decided to order “hitsumabushi” (3,500 yen).
It’s been about two years since I’ve had hitsumabushi, as I haven’t eaten it since I left Nagoya.
As it was an eel from the Kanto region, it wasn’t crispy, but it was grilled tenderly and delicious.
I don’t think many people in Tokyo order “hitsumabushi”, but I love it.
I was so happy to be able to eat hitsumabushi again after such a long time.
The restaurant was really good, and when I looked into it more, I found out that “Setagaya Miyagawa” was a famous restaurant with a long history.
No wonder it was so delicious. 💦
About “Setagaya Miyagawa
Setagaya Miyagawa is a long-established restaurant that has been in business since 1931 (Showa 6), and is loved by the locals for its eel dishes, which are grilled using a secret sauce that is not shared outside the family.
In addition to eel dishes, the restaurant is also known for its wide variety of Japanese dishes, such as sashimi, tempura and vinegared dishes, which make use of carefully selected ingredients and techniques.
It is one of the ten restaurants belonging to the Tsukiji Miyagawa Noren Association, which was established as a branch of the Tsukiji Miyagawa Honten restaurant, which was founded in 1893. While preserving the traditional taste, it continues to create its own unique menu and to seek out a taste that will satisfy its customers.
