The rare Manyo beef, which is only available at a few shops in Tokyo
Manyo beef is a rare brand of beef that was born and raised in Hyogo Prefecture, where the meat is said to be delicious, and then introduced to Tottori Prefecture, where it was raised as a beef cow.
There are only a few shops in Tokyo that handle Manyo beef, and one of them is the restaurant we will introduce here, “Roast Matsuba”.
This is a popular restaurant that is difficult to book at the weekend
As soon as I returned to Tokyo from my temporary posting, my daughter, who had moved out of the family home to rent a flat, came back home on a weekday.
She said she wanted to eat yakiniku, so we went to a restaurant called “Roast Matsuba” in Kamikitazawa.
We had tried to make a reservation on several Saturdays and Sundays, but it was always full and we couldn’t go.
I thought, “Maybe I can make a reservation today on a weekday!” and contacted them, and there were some vacancies on that day, so I was finally able to visit.
I could really taste the meat’s deliciousness.
What attracted me to this restaurant was a description in a gourmet guide that said, “The Manyo beef served at Roasu Matsuba has a low melting point for fat, and it melts smoothly in your mouth, making it a characteristic of this beef.”
I thought, ‘If the melting point is low and the fat melts easily, then won’t my mouth get covered in fat?’ But when I actually tried it, the meat was really refreshing.
It looks like it has some marbling, but when you eat it, you only taste the meat’s natural flavor.
I was strangely satisfied with the idea that this is what it’s like to eat meat with a low melting point.
I was able to eat some really delicious lean meat, and my wife and daughter were very satisfied.
About “Roast Matsuba
Roasu Matsuba was established in 2015 and is a popular yakiniku restaurant in the local area.
It was also featured on the TV program “Ad Machikku Tengoku” in December 2023, and it seems to have become even harder to make a reservation.
Incidentally, the program introduced it as “a popular yakiniku restaurant that attracts customers from inside and outside the town. It serves the ‘Tottori Inaba Manyo Beef’, a type of Japanese beef that the owner is crazy about. It is one of the few registered designated stores in the city. It is characterized by its fine, sweet lean meat and its fat that is so smooth that it is said to be ‘marbled beef that you can have more of’”.
I think this is a particularly good restaurant for those who like lean meat.
