In January 2023, I heard from a friend from university who lives in Setagaya Ward that a delicious restaurant had opened in Goutokuji, so I went there straight away.
That restaurant is the one I’m introducing today, “Chinese Restaurant Yuzu”.
Please check the official website and Google Maps below for opening hours, days off, reviews, etc.
A Michelin-starred chef’s restaurant that suddenly appeared in a residential area of Setagaya-ku
“Chinese Restaurant Yuzu” is located exactly halfway between Gotokuji and Kyodo, and even though there are no restaurants in the neighborhood at all, you can’t help but wonder why it’s here.
I went there for lunch on a Sunday and it was so delicious that I decided to make a reservation for dinner.
It became a super popular restaurant right after it opened!
The owner of this restaurant is Naoto Hatsumi, who is originally from Katsushika Ward in Tokyo.
It became a very popular restaurant soon after it opened.
After working for a long time at the famous restaurant “Akasaka Sichuan Restaurant”, he was asked by the long-established Chinese restaurant “Hiroo Hashizume” to rebuild it, and he is a skilled chef who has developed it into a Michelin-listed restaurant as the executive chef.
As soon as it opened, its reputation spread quickly throughout the neighborhood, and even at past 2pm, the lunch service was still fully booked.
This is Chinese food with a Japanese flavor.
There are three types of evening courses available from 5,800 yen, but we chose the most reasonably priced course this time.
When I first saw the appetizer that was brought out, I felt that it had a somewhat Japanese-style appetizer atmosphere.
I felt the same atmosphere with the dishes that followed, so I asked Chef Hatsumi about it, and he told me that he was careful with the dashi, and that he used Japanese dashi made from Rishiri kelp and bonito flakes.
It seems that he has incorporated Japanese-style tastes into Chinese cuisine.
What was also impressive was that I didn’t feel the heaviness of the oil at all.
When I asked about this, I was told, “We try to drain off as much oil as possible, and we also change the oil depending on the dish.”
I think it would be impossible to find a Michelin-starred chef in the city center who would charge 5,800 yen for a course like this (as of February 2023).
You can enjoy sophisticated Chinese cuisine at a “Gotokuji price”, and the sommelier will choose a wine to go with your meal.
Why not enjoy the marriage of delicious Chinese food and wine at “Chinese Restaurant Yuzu”, located in a quiet residential area of Setagaya?
