Yoyogi Uehara is known as one of the most upmarket residential areas in Tokyo, and it is home to many cafes with a relaxed atmosphere and shops selling delicious cakes.
In this article, we will introduce you to one of Yoyogi Uehara’s popular Western-style cake shops, “Asterisk”.
Please check the official website and Google Map below for opening hours, days closed, reviews, etc.

I found a good-looking cake shop near Yoyogi Uehara Station!

After having soba noodles for lunch at “Yamasemi” in Yoyogi Uehara, I thought “There might be a good place to get sweets around here”, so I searched for a place and found a good-looking shop.
That’s why I went to a shop called “Asterisk”.
The shop is about a 3-minute walk from Yoyogi Uehara, and I arrived at the shop a little after 1pm.

A delicious, sophisticated cake that goes all the way to the bottom

I heard that this was a popular shop, but I was able to go in without waiting in line, even though it was in the middle of the day on a weekday.
I bought three cakes (total price 2100 yen), and they were all sophisticated and delicious (prices as of April 2023).

I may be the only one who would write a comment like this, but I was really impressed by how delicious the cake was right down to the bottom (I don’t know if this is an expression that would make the shop owners happy…).

About “Asterisk”

Asterisk is a patisserie that opened in 2012 by Koichi Izumi, who was the chef patissier at the famous Salon de the Sully in Chofu, Tokyo for many years. The patisserie offers a wide range of cakes, macaroons and chocolates made with carefully selected ingredients and plenty of fruit.

The origin of the name of this shop is the French word “ASTERISQUE”, which refers to the symbol * and means “small star” in French.
The name of the shop expresses the chef’s wish to “continue to shine brightly together, even if it’s just a small light”.
Mr. Izumi has won awards at international competitions, and has also served as the captain of the Japanese team at the World Pastry Team Championship (WPTC), which is known as the “World Cup of Pastry”, so his skills are well-established.
At Asterisk, they are particular about the freshness of their sweets, and basically do not make any in advance. Only the sweets that are lined up on a given day are made on that day.
I would like as many people as possible to try the cakes made by this top-class patissier, who is particular about everything.
